Although
“Random Acts of Art” was established as a name to represent
a variety of artistic media, the original focus has been
jewelry design. Founders, Phyllis Gaschott & Allison Baker
have a passion for the arts.
Phyllis has always had her hand in music. Her musical
talents include violin, cello, piano, guitar, and her
beautiful singing voice. For many years she was a part of
the Portland Choral Art Society as well as a few other
smaller singing groups.
Allison has always had a love of painting & drawing. She's
happiest when she's in her natural element & creating. She's
always excited to try her hand at something new. Whether new
or something already explored she always does everything
with a meticulous eye.
About 5 years ago, the Mother & Daughter team started
designing jewelry as a fun hobby. With a desire to use more
semi-precious stones, crystals, and precious metals, the
“hobby” grew. Not only do they enjoy the process of creating
but they also find excitement in finding new & unique pieces
to create with. Their style can be described as delicate &
feminine but also, colorful with a unique flair. Their new
adventure entails creating handmade pieces using precious
metal clay, glass fusing, and hand stitching.
Joe Gaschott, Wood
Turner:
I have had a
love for working with wood for most of my life from
woodturning in high school, to furniture making, to home
construction and detailed finish work, some of which has
been showcased in the "Professional Builder" magazine.
Upon retiring in 2006, I decided to hone my skills in
woodturning by studying with Ed Good, a local teacher
and highly skilled woodturner. My enjoyment of the
woodturning process prompted me to buy a lathe and I
have been turning pieces of wood into works of art ever
since.
I am a member of the American Association Of Woodturners.
